The Champion Has A Name

The champion has a name- Charles "Do Bronx" Oliveira. Charles Oliveira is back, and back in a big-big way, as he amazed the Canadian crowd in Vancouver and the world watching with a first round TKO of Beneil Dariush at UFC 289 to end Dariush's lengthy win streak. Going into this return bout- everyone had doubted Olivera out. Everyone thought Oliveira was finished amongst the top of the elite because of his defeat to Islam Makhachev. Boy oh boy, did he prove the masses wrong... again.

Oliveira dominated Dariush with his trademarked offensive tenacity and bubble pressing game plan. A stranglehold-snake like, type of attack that had him outstriking Dariush: 26 to 12. The press forward game-plan of Charles, had Dariush guessing right off the first horn. Charles had the same unreal confidence in his striking; combos; and stand attack that was an immediate problem for Beneil's chances for victory. The problem came to a head, when Beneil thought to transfer his focus to the ground, thinking he could out grapple Oliveira- which is a mistake every time (outside of Islam). With a minute and spare on the ground to test his tweaks- he knew right away he was short lived as he felt Oliveira's godliness off his back in guard. Casuals think Charles is in a trench there- when in reality, he is comfortable & is setting a trap. Dariush smartened up and brought the action back to the feet. Do Bronx immediately pressed forward with a beautiful & LOUD shin to chin that stunned Beneil & spring boarded the slithery assassin to move in for his kill. Doing just that- Charles set the reticles' crosshair and handed out a slew of vicious strikes, including a right hand that cradled Beneil to the floor and into a fight for your life act. Dariush didn't last much longer after that. Do Bronx slithered in for the kill; spun the back; and positioned Dariush to eat his hammer blows and face defeat:

Easy money. Just that easy. That's a common occurrence for Do Bronx. Winning money that is. Oliveira's TKO over Beneil was so damn awesome, that it awarded him a performance of the night bonus- which gave Oliveira the most post fight bonuses of any fighter in UFC history (19). Charles was feelin' all the record breakin' vibes on Saturday night, as his TKO placed him on a mountain top of his own, as the all-time finisher king with 20 dubs coming via a finish. He's HIM and is the most savage fighter the promotion as seen. Stat's don't lie. You can believe that.

The day is coming that we will debate Oliveira's legacy. Trust me. We are going to talk. For now, we can stick to the now and near. You have to give Islam to Charles. Or Charles to Islam. However you wanna spell it- it needs to be booked. Oliveira has not only beaten the entire top 5 at 155- he has finished all of them. Dana and co lined 'em up & Do Bronx knocked 'em down. Did Charles fall short to Islam in Abu Dhabi? Yes, he did. Now, since such loss- he has returned against a rising contender; who had been ridin' an 8 fight win streak; and butchered him. Left him layin' with a minute to spare in the opening round. So, give Do Bronx his damn rematch and don't allow special Dagestan rules.

Since I am here preaching. Who the hell says it should be in Abu Dhabi, again? Throw it in Brazil why don't we? Allow Oliveira to get his moment. Allow us to give Brazil and South America a moment. Don't continue to allow special Dagy rules. Like, why should Makhachev get handed down everything and have things the easy way? I get that Islam finished Oliveira and is the current champion. I get it. But, we saw him get the love to earn the belt- doing it in his territory, Abu Dhabi. Islam's dub over Charles was a career altering moment for Islam, as he stopped Oliveira when Oliveira was at his hottest as well as it being Islam's only big name on that "beloved" resume. That happened; now I say you have Islam defend the title live in Oliveira's backyard. You know, Oliveira? The guy who has single-handedly kept the promotion ablaze post McGregor's prime. The man who has won 12/13 fights in the most exciting of ways & against some of the baddest dudes roaming this Earth. Charles is now the king of bonuses and the king of finishes. You ask me? I say he has more than earned it; how special would it be to experience. We have seen the glorious energy of Brazil hailing their superstars. Rather it's on a futbol field, or fighting in the Octagon- Brazil stands and delivers to show galore to their heroes. Kaka. Pele. Jose Aldo. Anderson Silva. Legendary icons who have created legendary homecomings and crowd ovations. Oliveira would put Brazil in a frenzy if he finished Islam and regained his Lightweight title. It would be iconic. Book it and give Charles his damn rematch!

With all that said- Charles Oliveira is back, baby. What a performance by Do Bronx. I feel deep down that we did not witness Charles Oliveira in his greatest form in that defeat to Islam Makhachev. Saturday against Dariush, he seem to have that form be shown again. Pure confidence. Pure domination. Such a special fighter and athlete. I think he can regain that title. We shall see. All I know? Charles Oliveira is a bad motherf*****, man.
